An engagement ring should cost the same as 2.5 months salary (as a general guide).This shows commitment. Anything less should be regarded as an insult.

That's called lay away and virtually every store on the planet allows for payment that way. But you need to make sure you buy the ring from a reputable jeweler who won't take your money and leave town. Ask your married friends where they got their rings

I had an engagement ring from a prior (failed engagement). My new fiancee knew I had the ring and I tried, unsuccessfully to sell it. When I bought the new ring I used the center stone from the old one in a new setting. The stone was approximately 1.1
I think it might be better to start afresh. I am a believer that ‘things’ carry positive and negative energy. I wouldn’t even save them. Sorry to be so pessimistic, but it’s just my viewpoint.
